1/31/8Killer gig! Best hotel stay ever! Just needed more Mickey to make perfect!!
Band (sans Elton) all met up in Vegas and flew on same non-stop flight to Orlando (can you say "learn from the Buddy Holly story?! Ha ha). Checked into the swanky resort, then had nightcap at one of their bars - Joel was already at resort getting good dose of Minnie, but we weren't available to him until 11pm. Next day band rented two little "speed" boats and did race around the lakes. For some reason, Fuzz and my boat wasn't quite as fast as Chickman & James'?? Soundcheck at the resort convention center went as smooth as silk and lasted maybe 24 minutes tops! Great sound/stage crew had EVERYTHING ready on stage for us (they even altered the rider and supplied me with a triton extreme and apex stand - they are my official favorite sound company!!). Backstage was terrific, complete with deluxe dinner served in "silver" serving dishes, dessert, coffee, etc. - they even had the cool "Spinal Tap" hallway, dinner settings for us! Ha ha
Our fav techie "Downtown Dave" even entertained us with numerous stagehand jokes and stories of gators. Gig went very well, changing from pure Elton John to crazy, dance, disco, rock madness!! Very fun, ending with "Hotel California" and "ACDC"! We had a glorious after party at the waterside deli with most of the conventioneers - many beers were "bought" for us, sprinklers broken, and compliments overflowed. But nobody got arrested or fell into the lake L
Next day, everyone left very early, except me - I took one last Yoko-onorail trip and visited two other resorts.
Definitely one of my best road trips ever!! Next up: South Dakota to terrorize Dayna's relatives!
